hidden treasure

finally, a speck of green. i had lost of hope, but thankfully, there was a cucumber seed which decided to make my day.

just as i was writing off all the seeds which didn't germinate today morning, i saw this. trust me, i almost threw out all of the soil until i saw this. at first i thought i might have been mistaken, but seems like this is what cucumber seeds that germinate look like.

thank you dear cucumber, u will always be remembered as the one that survived (hopefully!).

failure: its a good place to start

confession 1: i have been meaning to start this blog for, well, almost forever. but it is finally seeing the light of day.
confession 2: my seeds never sprouted.

so that's that.

anyways, i believe that there is never a better place to start than right at the bottom. hopefully things will get better from here.

i had started seeds on sept 2, and the basic google research said that it would take atleast 7 to 14 days for the seeds to germinate.

this is what i started with: vermiculite mixed with some soil; 2 seeds each of 6 different (cucumber, chillies, palak, tomato, carrot, brinjal) in 6 seperate home-made seedling trays. i didn't water them heavily, just made sure the mix is moist. wrapped it with plastic and clamped with a rubber band; i didnt poke any holes as i wanted the moisture to stay inside.

there are many things that could have gone wrong. could be that the seeds weren't good to start with. maybe i needed a better potting mix and a soil-less one would have been better. adding a few on the seedling tray could have made the difference. but i cant be sure which one of these were the reasons.

i was quite disappointed in myself that such a simple thing was proving to be a task. just out of anxiety i started reading up other blogs, came across garden betty and was inspired to start again. thanks garden betty.

so in the second attempt, i've tried to make few changes. made seedling trays out of eggshells and used tissue paper for germination. my second attempt requires a seperate post on its own, so details on that later. fingers crossed.

im of the school of thinking that making mistakes is a good thing as opposed to bad. one learns more from failures than successes. it helps you discover not just different things but also aspects of yourself which you otherwise would not come across.
